FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TUSCALOOSA — The University of Alabama Press is pleased to announce that Jeffrey A. Bennett and Isaac West have assumed the editorship of the Press’s storied Rhetoric, Culture, and Social Critique series (RCS). The two esteemed scholars take over from founding series editor John Louis Lucaites, who established the series in 2000 and published 76 works in the increasingly diverse and fertile field of rhetoric and communication studies.
Jeffrey A. Bennett and Isaac West stated, “We’re thrilled to begin our work as editors of the Rhetoric, Culture, and Social Critique series, a robust collection of influential works in the fields of rhetoric and communication studies. As he passes the baton to us, we want to thank our friend and mentor John Lucaites for his decades-long editorship of the series. John cultivated an unrivaled list in rhetorical studies. With 75+ titles in the series, the authors have produced wide-ranging theoretical interventions in the study of cultures, communication, and deliberation. We will continue the series’ interest in conceiving of rhetoric in the broadest terms to allow our authors the latitude needed to engage emergent concerns as rhetorical studies evolves. Without any artificial boundaries drawn by method, topic, or time period, we will solicit projects where the vocabularies of rhetorical studies provide unique insights into the creation, maintenance, and dissolution of public cultures.”
Rhetoric, Culture, and Social Critique consists of scholarship that sits at the juncture of rhetorical studies and public culture, with an eye toward the enactment of incisive criticism and generative theory. The works in this series are grounded first and foremost in rhetorical theory and criticism but also draw from interdisciplinary traditions and perspectives to elucidate how acts of communication enliven the possibilities for interpretation, judgment, and invention. Our authors investigate the historical, critical, and theoretical points of contact between rhetoric and civic life, in a variety of cultural, cross-cultural, and transnational contexts, in order to engage the dynamics of contemporary communication practices.
