Imagine that the White House could speak. What would it say about its long and storied history?
Perhaps it would tell us about the many presidents who have lived within its walls, and the decisions they have made that have shaped our country. It might tell us about the world leaders who have visited its halls, and the treaties that have been signed there.
Or perhaps the White House would tell us about the everyday lives of its residents, from the First Family to the staff who keep it running smoothly. It might tell us about the joys and sorrows of life in the White House, and the unique challenges and opportunities that come with living in the most famous house in the world.
Whatever the White House would have to say, it is sure to be a fascinating story. After all, it has been a witness to some of the most important moments in American history.
And so, on October 12, 1901, President Roosevelt gave the White House, previously known as the Executive Mansion, its name. On this anniversary, let us take a moment to appreciate this iconic building and the role it has played in our nation’s life.
