2015 Catalogs Available Online!

Just in time for the fall reading season, we’re excited to release our 2015 new book catalogs in digital format. At issuu.com, you can scroll through our two biannual catalogs from 2015. To view either catalog, simply click on the cover image. Below are some highlights about each:

Fall 2015 catalog cover Our Fall 2015 catalog includes books published between September and February. Highlights include Visions of the Black Belt, a landmark pictorial tour of the traditional culture of Alabama’s Black Belt. Supported by the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center of Camden, Alabama, Visions of the Black Belt includes 378 photos and fascinating prose by Robin McDonald and Valerie Pope Burnes.

An instant Alabama classic is Watt Key’s Among the Swamp People. Key is the best-selling author of Alabama Moon and Dirt Road Home. In Among the Swamp People, he recounts the hilarious and true adventures and misadventures that arose when he took up residence in a drift-wood cabin in the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. Long-time lovers of University of Montevallo English don Bill Cobb will treasure his unstinting new memoir Captain Billy’s Troopers, which chronicles his coming of age in Demopolis, early writing career at Vanderbilt, and writing and teaching career at Montevallo.

In this catalog, Civil War history-lovers will discover Civil War Alabama by Tuscaloosa attorney and independent scholar Chris McIlwain. In it, McIlwain challenges the assumption that the population of Alabama was uniformly and adamantly in favor or secession, that the “Free State of Winston” was not an exception in the state but emblematic of the feelings of many Alabamians.

Spring15_coveronlyWe’re also glad to make available our Spring 2015 catalog. Among its highlights is Collards: A Southern Tradition from Seed to Table, the definitive book of every good southerner’s favorite green. Authors Ed Davis and John Morgan show that, just as Southern culture is a mix of African and European elements, so, too, the collard green was a plant native to northern Europe whose central place in southern gastronomy is thanks to its adoption by African American cooks.

Other highlights in this catalog include books in the Modern and Contemporary Poetics series edited by Hank Lazer. This season’s additions to the series include What I Say, an exploration of experimental black poets from 1977 to the present, The Ecology of Modernism, which explores the fascinating lack of green thinking in modernist writing, and The Astonishment Tapes, a series of conversations with San Francisco Renaissance poet Robin Blaser.

In these two catalogs, we’re also pleased to continue to bring back into print gloriously spooky commemorative editions of Kathryn Tucker Windham’s Thirteen Georgia Ghosts and Jeffrey and Thirteen Mississippi Ghosts and Jeffrey. Just in time for Halloween, four of the original five “Jeffrey” books are now in print again!
