Fleming breaks new critical ground in charting Hemingway's preoccupation with writers and their roles as artists. The Face in the Mirror develops a largely overlooked theme in Hemingway's writing--his depiction of writers and the special problems they face, professionally and personally. From his earliest years, Hemingway was preoccupied with the artistic and ethical dilemmas of his writer protagonists. Fleming's book explores Hemingway's concern with writers and writing from the 1920s through the early 1960s.
Robert E. Fleming is Professor of English at the University of New Mexico and the author of several volumes, including James Weldon Johnson.
"Smooth and eminently readable. Highly recommended." —CHOICE "It is always a joy to herald a new critical work that accurately addresses the man and his world, and Robert Fleming's book does just that." —The Hemingway Review
