Authors Guide To Marketing Sales

The Marketing Department at The University of Alabama Press is comprised of a professional staff of talented booksellers. Before the production phase of a book, we develop a marketing agenda for a title and, after its publication, carry through with promotion plans. We produce seasonal catalogs, specialty brochures, and individual fliers; seek blurbs and reviews; place ads in appropriate journals, magazines, and newspapers; arrange author tours, book signings, and other special events; submit books for award consideration; disseminate vital information on our titles to databases all over the country and world; and collaborate closely with a group of highly seasoned sales representatives who visit book retailers and wholesalers, both nationally and internationally. We also exhibit and sell at major trade book shows and attend national and regional scholarly meetings with the aim of maximizing exposure and distribution of our books.
The author’s role in the marketing process is vital. We ask that you provide needed information about you and your book in an Author’s Questionnaire sent with the contract or by email; and supply black-and-white author photograph for promotional use. It is also very helpful when an author can supply a good mailing list of friends and associates who will be interested in receiving an announcement of his/her book’s publication, or he/she assumes responsibility to send an electronic flier we have provided to such a list.
