The Alabama Center for the Book, under the aegis of The University Libraries at The University of Alabama, and The University of Alabama Press are pleased to invite UA students, faculty, and staff, as well as the public to the second free Authors@Gorgas lunch-time speaker event spotlighting outstanding books by Alabama writers.

The next speaker is Lila Quintero Weaver, the author and artist of Darkroom, an autobiographical graphic novel about growing up Latina in the Black Belt in the 1960s. She explodes the myth that the South was a monolith of black and white and creates new ways of understanding the Civil Rights movement by including the first-person voice and observations of a Hispanic child and presenting the material in an innovative graphic format. From lifelong southerners to newcomers to Alabama, all will enjoy this unique opportunity to learn more about this pivotal era in Alabama history.

The event will take place in Room #205 in the east wing of Gorgas Library. The room will be set with tables, and attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or purchase lunch in the library's grab-and-go café.
